My Newest Project

Just thought I’d show you what I’ve been working on this weekend.

It took up a lot of my project time.

Meet Katy.

She’s a retired racing greyhound.

Isn’t she pretty?

We’re fostering her until she finds her forever home.

She is such a sweetheart.

Katy is 8.5 yrs old and was a top racer for a long time.  She ran in 169 races!

Poor girl, she worked hard all her life and is just now looking for a retirement home.

She was fostered locally the last 6 months, but not adopted.  Her foster mom couldn’t keep her anymore and very reluctantly let us take over her care.

So far she is fitting in with my two girls just fine.

She’s pretty nervous and confused.

It’s like having a new baby, she needs lots of attention right now.

  1. How blessed Katy is to have you welcome her into your home. It looks like Katy is enjoying your place. Just maybe you can keep her for a long time. She has such a sweet face. We took Trixie in as an interim foster home and bless her little heart she decided she didn't want to go anywhere else. So here ten years later she's still here.

  2. What a wonderful project to take on!! She looks so sweet. Send me an email with your snail mail and I will make Katy a blankie. I don't know if you follow my blog or not but I make blankies for all the dogs in the prison pooch program. I love to make them so that they have something of theirs to take from their foster home to their real home. Something that they can sniff and feel comfortable with. I make them sturdy; and I use fleece on the back which is a bit water resistant. Let me know!

  3. My old roommate adopted a retired greyhound from Southland in Memphis a year ago! Duke is an awesome dog and only retired after he broke his back foot.

She doesn't blog anymore, but meet Duke aka "Big Bad Monday" here!

  4. Poor baby.....I know what it's like to take in a rescue, I have three right now, Boo Boo, a rat terrier, didn't know what the heck was going on. He went from first owner then foster home them me. He waited for his foster mom to come back, I had to sleep on the couch with him for almost a week.
It breaks my heart, but he's happy now! It takes a special person to foster and you are one of them! Hugs to you. 8>)

  5. What a sweet dog. My brother has two rescued greyhounds and they are the best dogs!! What a wonderful thing to do...foster a dog. hugs, Linda

  6. this is a brave thing to do...i have so thought bought fostering boxers but my sons and hub said they felt was a bad idea i would become way to attached, i lost my boxer soon 4 yrs ago and my heart is not mended yet and prolly never will be...but i have such respect for anyone who opens there home and heart to these creatures in need....God Bless You

  7. What a sweet thing to do. She looks right at home on the bed, I'm wondering if in a few weeks we will see a post that says she has become a permanent member of your family.

  8. What a sweet dog and a beautiful thing for you to do! This brought tears to my eyes, thank you for sharing your latest project with us!

  9. oh my gosh! what a sweet face katie has! Poor thing, being moved from place to place. I think you're going to have a difficult time letting her go.

  10. That greyhound looks great! Hope you'll have a wonderful time with her.

  11. Awe, WOW 169 races at 8.5! Katy is adorable. What a great project : ) Lets just hope your 2 girls don't teach her how to "re-decorate" LOL

  13. She's lovely. I had an retired racer (Misha) adopted thru GPA. If I ever have another dog, I want another greyhound!

  14. Bless her lottle doggie heart. I would take her in a heartbeat if I didn't live thousands of miles way!

  15. How sweet! I have a feeling she's going to wrap herself right around your heart.

  16. just happened to find your blog by visiting another person on Pinterest....knew there was something special about you......I have 3 retired racers, one big boy that didn't race but came to me after 3 yrs. in a vet tech school (PTSD), and a big grey foster that came back due to a divorce....I've fostered about 13 and failed at one or two you can guess....I came out of my seat when I saw your comment and pic about Katy making her mark...Nice to meet you (sorta)...Diane in FL

Thanks for stopping by. I love to hear from you!
