Pansy Garden Chair (Care for Cathy project #2)

Yesterday I started telling you about the projects I made for the ‘Care for Cathy’ Benefit.

This is another of the chairs I pulled out of the basement to makeover.

Close up of the broken out caned seat. (and the dust)

The back detail was one of my favorites.

021

After a couple of coats of paint.  For this one I spray painted red along the edges first.  I wanted to distress it so the red would show through, rather than the dark wood.

I took my jigsaw and trimmed around the inside of the caned seat to create a wider rounded opening.

A curb found Dutch oven would now fit perfectly in the opening.

125

See how the handles keep it from falling through?

126

A perfect fit!

Some thrift store accessories…….

142

A bird..

139

Butterflies…..

128

A watering can…..

144

A one dollar birdhouse…….

246

Some paint touch ups…….

 241

And a pot of cheerful yellow and purple pansies…..

245

Give new life to the beat up old chair.

247

All for a grand total of $11.00!

247

I love how the red shows through the white paint.

248

This one went for $45 in the auction.  I actually liked this one better than the Herb Garden chair.

Which one do you like?

Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers for Cathy.  They will all be passed on to her.

Gotta go now, it’s trash day somewhere!

  1. While I love both chairs, especially the reasoning behind it all - I am from the Herb Garden camp... I adore that chair... the lettering, the two slats and pegs for hanging things, the curvy legs.... that chair just makes me happy!

As for todays chair - excellent job with the sizing for the dutch oven, love it - and you never even see the handles! Oh, and I really like the red showing through the white too - its just a really great chair!

  2. I love both chairs! I think they are beautiful. I'm so impressed with your creativity.

I think I'd be more likely to buy the one you featured today. I can't believe it didn't sell for as much as the Herb Garden one! Anyway, they are both wonderful. :-)

  5. Since I'm not a herb girl, I like today's chair! In fact, I love it! I love everything about it. The bird, butterflies.. the flowers. I am about to put one in my yard, but I was not going to adorn it (as I have before) now I feel guilty if I don't. bad rose!

Thanks for popping by Rose... you are so sweet... I am hoping this will pass SOON... I never really attributed it to my Mom but I think that is exactly what is going on. Thanks for your kind words Rose, they are so appreciated.

  8. I have no idea how I stumbled onto your blog today but I'm so glad I did. I've been reading for a half hour and each thing you make has the wow factor for me.

I can't believe the chair with the birdhouse didn't sell for more. It would be difficult for me to choose between any of the chairs you made. I love them all. I especially like the creative way you used the red pan from the Christmas tree stand.
